I was watching a news special on ABC’s 20/20. The news special was about families and individuals that the news program had been chronicling. 20/20 wanted to follow their normal lives as they dealt with family and work issues. The topic that 20/20 was most interested in was their work schedules and pay rates and how that impacted their lives on a day-to-day basis.
As I watched, I found myself crying and praying for the people they spotlighted. I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears. The story showed how these Americans were working 2-3 jobs each and still not able to make a living on the money they were earning. A lot of these people were only making minimum wage, which ranges by state, this amount can be between $5.15-$11.50 an hour. The amount ranges per each state. For this newscast, most of these individuals were at the lower end of the minimum wage scale.
Some of the people were homeless. One of the gentlemen highlighted lived in a tiny storage unit full of leaking water and spiders. Yes, he was working full-time. All these people spoke of the same things. They talked about how the “American Dream” seems so unattainable.
Their version of the “American Dream” were simple things. They didn’t dream of things of grandeur. They are seeking to make a living wage, being able to provide for their family, being able to take vacations, being able to buy a house in a decent neighborhood, their children attending decent schools, being able to save money and being able to save for their children’s college tuitions.
Just looking at their faces and seeing how tired, discouraged, beaten, frustrated and sad they were broke my heart. I remember how it feels to be on the verge of losing all hope. It’s a sad and lonely place. There is so much desperation and pain on that brink. I remember it well. I pray that I will never go back to that place.
The guy who lives in the storage unit still spoke of being grateful to God for everything he has. How tremendous is that? Through all his adversity and discouragement, he is still holding on to hope and God.
After watching that program, God brought something back to my memory. I remembered a recent short trip that we were blessed to take to the beach. It was a long 8-hour drive. While we were driving, we passed through town after town that had been decimated by our economy.
These were once thriving towns. Now, most of the houses are empty, and the businesses have closed. The empty houses & businesses now sit there empty, and all boarded up. Each one of these boarded up houses & business represents destroyed lives & families. I couldn’t stop thinking about these things. Even this morning, it is heavy on my heart & spirit. I started praying about it.
God, what has happened to our country and us in general? The individuals in the TV report spoke of how no one is reporting about them and about their situation. When did we stop caring for each other? When did we become so self-absorbed? There are people who each of us probably know that are suffering silently in similar situations.
God, when did this nation become so focused on the dollar and making a profit over all things? Please don’t get me wrong. I believe in capitalism, but there is a huge difference between capitalism and GREED. Again, let me clarify that I am not talking about becoming wealthy. All people have the right to make money for their hard work. I am speaking about greed.
Greed can blind someone to all the needs of others. Greed makes people put money above all things which include God. This is what God says about money in 1Timothy 6:10: “For the love of money [that is, the greedy desire for it and the willingness to gain it unethically] is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves [through and through] with many sorrows.”
That is powerful! God is saying that the LOVE of money is the root of evil. He does not say money in general is the root of evil. That is key! He also says that those who love money have pierced their hearts with sorrows! Wow! So, there it is in plain english. Money CANNOT buy happiness! In fact, the LOVE of money causes the opposite – sorrow.
God also says that we should be good stewards of everything He bestows upon us. He says that He blesses us to be a blessing to others. So, according to God’s will, we are here to help others. Duetoronmy 15:7 says “If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother.”
There are many ways to help others. It doesn’t always come down to helping via financial means. I know some people want to help others but find themselves in dire financial circumstances also. Our time is just as valuable if not more so than money. We can always make money back if lost but we can never gain our time back.
So, in saying all of that, I find God once again whispering into my spirit about the state of our great nation. We HAVE to start praying again. We cannot continue to pray only for ourselves and our families. We have to pray for this country, our leaders, and our fellow citizens.
God’s word says in His word Proverbs 21:1: The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it whichever way He wishes.” It is up to us through our prayer to place the hearts of our leaders into God’s hands. God’s word also decrees in 1 Timothy 2:1-2: “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be made for all people -for kings and all those in authority.”
It is time to face the facts. We are in a new year. We have a new president, a new direction, and a new philosophy. It doesn’t matter who received your vote. Our new President won the election through our electoral college which is how every election process works.
It is time to move on. It is time to close the door to the past. We CANNOT move forward into our promises anchored to the past. We cannot move into our destinies while harboring regrets of past decisions, old wounds, old hurts, old infirmities and old situations that have held us in fear or anger.
There is too much at stake! I hear people say that are just waiting for our new leadership to fail. That is utterly ridiculous! If they fail, we ALL fail. If they prevail, we ALL prevail. That is how simple that scenario is. It isn’t complicated or difficult to understand. We make it difficult with all of the thoughts what is right or wrong for this nation. Let’s leave those decisions up to God and not man.
I don’t know about you, but I prayed that God’s will would prevail through our recent election. I know that was a lot of people’s prayer. I pray that this was also your prayer. I see the outcome of our election as God’s will coming to pass. To me, that is all she wrote (as the saying goes)! There is no arguing with God’s will.
I know this is important to God because He keeps coming back to this land being healed and restored. God spoke of this very thing in the post titled “Father, we need your protection,” https://holygroundtoday.com/2017/01/07/father-we-need-your-protection/?iframe=true&theme_preview=true. This post talked about praying for our leaders and this nation.
God also lead me to write about the same subject it in the post titled “God, heal our land “https://holygroundtoday.com/2016/10/09/god-heal-our-land/?iframe=true&theme_preview=true. That was the very 1st post that God led me to write.
There was also the Facebook post titled “God, bring order & alignment out of our chaos” https://www.facebook.com/GodsHolyGround/photos/a.587668988103653.1073741828.552867414917144/588097781394107/?type=3. This post followed the same subject which was the healing of this mighty nation.
God also let me to write the blog post titled “God, it’s time for restoration.” https://holygroundtoday.com/2017/01/26/god-its-time-for-restoration/ Again, this blog was about restoration & healing of this great nation.
God is the ONLY answer! He is the only one who can fix all the issues facing this country & the world for that matter. God can heal our land, bring the poor out of poverty, create jobs, improve our schools and heal this racial division that is tearing us apart. He can break this anger, hatred, and ugliness that is gripping our nation. We need to place God in charge of our government and our leaders and our families. We just need to give Him control off all of these things through our prayers.
I believe this nation is the greatest nation on earth. If it isn’t, then why do so many people flock here? People come here to seek a better education, a better opportunity to have and job and make a decent living, to pursue doctors and our modern medical facilities, and most of all to have a chance to attain the “American Dream.” That is why so many people even risks their lives to travel here in search of our “American Dream”?
Please pray this prayer with me: God, heal our land. Father, God, there are so many people & families suffering in poverty and lack right now. They need You, Father. We all need You! God, they are weary and on the brink of losing all hope. Father, Your word says in Galatians 6:9 – “Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap if, we do not give in. ” God, do not let them succumb to their despair and sadness.
God, hold those in despair close to You. Let them draw near to You Father. Let them press into You, Father. Let them find Your abundant peace and love in Your holy presence. God, fill them with a new hope and a new understanding. God, give them Your endurance, Your direction, Your wisdom and Your discernment. God, Your Word says that You give wisdom to those who ask for it. Father, let them seek You and ask for Your wisdom.
Father, heal this division in our land. God, You blessed us with this beautiful nation. God, this is Your Land. Fill this country with a new thirst and passion for You and Your righteousness. God, use this country to be a beacon of hope and love for other nations.
Father, let healing take place over this land. For I hear the spirit of the Lord saying that He is ready to do a fresh thing. He is ready to pour His spirit out on all flesh. He is ready to see this nation step into a new and fresh anointing. An anointing so tremendous that no man will be able to doubt that it is the one and only living God moving.
God, we break every spirit of pain and suffering holding our fellow citizens captive. We bind poverty, desperation, crime, drugs, anger, hatred, bitterness and fear that is holding us to the past. Father, Your word says what we bind on earth is bound in heaven and what we loose on earth is loosed in heaven (Matthew 18:18).
God, we loose full restoration, discernment, strength, endurance, Your wisdom, knowledge, abundance, healing, tolerance, faith, peace, love, kindness for one another, hunger and desire for all of You God. Father, let us seek Your face, pray and humble ourselves (2 Chroni-cles 7:14) so that You will heal our land, God. Father, restore this land to her former glory. God, let Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. In Jesus name, we pray, Amen.
Perhaps you were once close to God but for whatever reason have moved away from Him. If you hear Him calling you back to Him, then there is another prayer God wants to extend to you. Please pray this prayer with me.
Dear Father, please forgive me for my sins. God, please cleanse me with the precious blood of Jesus. I know Christ died on the cross for me. I know He was crucified, buried and then arose on the third day. I know He ascended and now sits on the right hand of God. I receive Jesus as my savior. In Jesus name, we pray, Amen.
I pray that God uses you in a mighty way to glorify Him and His kingdom. I pray that you step into your divine destiny and live the fullest life possible. Amen.
God bless each of you.
